Making choices about plant-based foods is good for heart health, according to a review of four decades of data.

Researchers from Denmark have shown that vegetables and fruits can cut cholesterol levels and blood fats that increase heart disease.


The effect is equivalent to about a third of the daily drug intake - which they say is a big improvement.
But experts say that meat and dairy have their own health benefits – giving up meat-free foods altogether is not really healthy.
The research compiled 30 trials conducted since 1982 in which scientists gave volunteers a fixed diet and monitored its effects on heart health. 

A total of approximately 2,400 people from around the world participated in the study.
